Cheese tasting tour Reypenaer
The Dutch are known for their excellent cheeses. One of the finest establishments to try a traditional Dutch cheese is Reypenaer, a family-run company that has been making fantastic cheeses for over a century.
Their award-winning cheeses contain no artificial ingredients and are not left to age in artificial environmental conditions. The company strives to do everything as naturally as possible. The cheese they make is a variety of Gouda and is aged in a 100-year- old warehouse that sits alongside the Oude Rijn River. There are three different types of Reypenaer cheeses. The company’s most classic cheese is matured for one year and has a soft, creamy flavour.
In recent years, the company has started running cheese tastings that have become one of the best tourist attractions in the city. The tasting takes place in the cellar of a 17 th century townhouse where you can also find the Reypenaer Cheese Showroom. The cellar has been tastefully renovated and has various tables and chairs which people sit around for the tasting. The tasting includes a selection of six cheeses with drinks to accompany them. You will be guided through each cheese by an expert, who will teach you about the production of the cheeses and answer any questions you may have.
The whole tasting lasts around one hour.
