Learn about the history of the Jewish people in the Netherlands

In the heart of Amsterdam you will find a number of impressive Jewish monuments within less than one square kilometre. A short walk through the old Jewish quarter will take you to:

- leading cultural institution the Jewish Historical Museum
- its fascinating Children's Museum
- the imposing Portuguese Synagogue
- and the Hollandsche Schouwburg (Dutch Theatre), a moving historic monument.*

At the Jewish Historical Museum, you can visit the renowned exhibition, Religion in the Great Synagogue (1671) and learn all about the customs, traditions, and religious practices associated with the Jewish religion.
* The Hollandse Schouwburg will be temporarily closed for renovation from 2 February 2020 onward

Opening hours:
Daily from 11.00h. to 17.00h.

Portuguese Synagogue is open daily from 10.00h. to 17.00h., but closed on Saturdays. Also closed at 16.00 on Fridays (at 14.00 on Fridays from November 1 to March 31) and most Jewish holidays.
